As lawmakers returned to this year’s session the two bills that were introduced last year, SB 30 and HB 75, await them. It is considered a critical time for them as the Medical Control Board will start accepting business applications in more than a month. Lawmakers will have until February 22 to introduce new bills, though it seems likely the legislature will hold off on making significant changes until the program is fully functional.
Cannabis consumers and those that service them should observe closely as both local officials and lawmakers find ways to regulate the emerging market, and be ready to defend Measure 2.
Since local communities around the state are considering their own regulations, Fairbanks will ask the legislature to prohibit cannabis social clubs over implementing their own ordinance. While Anchorage is considering a ban on cannabis cafes and will seek to place a proposed local tax.
Good post.
